Summer is coming to an end, but this Georgia heat seems as if it is here to stay 😩 along with all the frizz, tons of flyaways and of course, dreaded breakage from all the fun in the sun we’ve had the last few months. What’s a gal to do? Lucky for us, boho hair is still totally on trend and will surely take your tresses right into cooler, fall looks. Here’s a few tips to prep your hair for the coming season.
Say no the hot tools
SKIP THE HEAT- unless you’re savoring the last of the pool days with your bestie. Try going heat-free and giving a moment to messy buns, ponies or braids. Finish your uber-easy updos with a super cute scrunchie or hair ribbon, which are basically jewelry for your hair. The key to heatless styles (outside of being genetically blessed with gorgeous, natural texture) is picking the right products. Oil-absorbing texturizes are best for finer hair, while more coarse, curly girls will need light, cream-based products for control. Opt for a loose braid, like the ones below by @hairandmakeupbyaustin to protect your mane. Spritz your favorite dry shampoo at your roots before you braid and you’ll notice extra volume and style. Second day hair that looks good as new? We’ll take it!
Heading out for a night on the town? Simply take down your loose braid and add a little Pureology Wind Tossed Texture Spray from roots to end for extra texture and volume. The braids will give you waves sans curling iron. #WINNING If you can’t kick the heat habit entirely, make sure you’re using a heat defense spray, like Two Phase from Keune, before you heat up that iron. This must-have product works great as a detangler for post shower.
Show a little extra love
Did you live your best life by the pool or beach this summer? Chances are your hair paid the price. Taking extra care of your hair post fun in the sun is CRUCIAL, especially if you have color in your hair. Be sure to visit your stylist to touch up your roots and trim those ends. Getting a trim will make hair styling much easier. Ask your stylist about customized, in-salon treatments to bring life back to those locks, and think about adding a deep conditioner to your routine. Indulge with some super moisturizing magic on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. Your hair will love you come full-fledged fall when you decide to go a shade darker. Our pick: Keune Care Satin Oil Masque. This nourishing mask hydrates, replenishes and treats each individual strand from the inside out. The results? Your hair is left silky, soft and shines bright like a diamond (Love you Ri Ri).
Shiny, frizz-free and manageable hair is the ultimate goal, right ladies? Cue in Keratin. Keratin is a protein naturally found in our hair, skin and nails, and is depleted over time as we do all the bad things that make our hairs look pretty i.e. heat styling daily and that one time we decided to go platinum :/ Thank baby Jesus we have Keratin Smoothing treatments. A Keratin Smoothing treatment is a formula that seals the hair cuticle with a coating of protein that eliminates frizz, and adds softness and shine. It makes hair more silky and smooth and most importantly, more manageable, which is desperately needed after a summer in Atlanta. It’s pretty amazing after a color service, as it seals in your color and adds stunning shine. Our favorite part of this treatment? It can cut styling time in half (yes, please). Again, less heat the better this time of year.
Pumpkin Spice may officially be on the menu (THANK YOU STARBUCKS), but the forecast is still sunny with a side of frizz. So remember, skip the (hair)heat when you can, give your locks some extra loving and talk to your stylist about the right product and treatments to help your hair survive and thrive right into our favorite time of year 🍂🎃
